It is possibly one of the largest photography subcultures in America. It exists outside of the art market and outside of the labyrinthine patois of the art world. It’s beyond the sphere of influence of galleries and museums, delimited by a type kind of institution altogether. Prison portraiture, known in New York as the “click-click” program, is practiced in nearly every U.S. penitentiary. Inmates pose in front of cheerful hand-painted backdrops depicting log cabins, lighthouses, city skylines, and beaches — signifiers of un-incarcerated, middle-class life. The photographs are sent to friends and family on the outside.

I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.

Ezimba also has a Facebook app, Google Android app, and a free iPhone app. Please note that the free iPhone app puts a small logo on the edited image. You can buy the paid ezimba app and not have the logo.

Our Robot Dawn has become quite the cover model. This just arrived today. Cover images below...BusinessWeek too...

The peace dividend from the cell phone wars… With a powerful brain in a box, festooned with sensors and low-power electronics, just add prostheses for the mind to build satellites, robots, and cool toys at radically lower price points.

Thank Jobs. Steve’s spartan sensibilities accelerated the transition from hardware to software. By dematerializing the interface well ahead of what others thought possible, Apple was able to shift its features to the flexible and much more lucrative domain of software and services.

VCJ opines: “venture capitalists are quickly falling in love… connected hardware could be the next big thing in venture and this year investor interest has taken off.”

Tokyo - Nishi-Shinjuku: LOVE
love image
Robert Indiana, an American Pop artist known for his "scuptural poems," is best known for his "LOVE" with a titled "O." This image, first created for a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964, was included on an 8 cent United States Postal Service postage stamp in 1973, the first of their regular series of "love stamps." This sculptural version in Shinjuku in one of many. The others can be found on the Pratt Institute campus in Brooklyn, NY; along Sixth Avenue in New York; the Indianapolis Museum of Art; Scottsdale's Civic Center, in so called "LOVE Park" in Philadelphia, the New Orleans Museum of Art's sculpture garden, on the University of Pennsylvania campus, at the Museum of Modern Art at Brigham Young University, on the campus of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, outside the Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan, at the Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino in Las Vegas, and on the world-famous Orchard Road, Singapore.

Infamously, Indiana failed to register a copyright for the work, and found it difficult to deter unauthorized commercial use. The image has been reproduced in countless times in varying forms, including sculptures, posters, and 3-D desk ornaments. It has been translated into Hebrew, Chinese, and Spanish. It strongly influenced the original cover of Love Story, the Erich Segal novel. It was parodied on the Rage Against the Machine album cover for Renegades, as well as the cover for Oasis' single Little by Little from the 2002 album Heathen Chemistry. Recently it has been parodied by London artist D*Face with his "HATE", the "A" tilted similarly. The LOVE emblem has been adopted by skateboarders, frequently used in skateboard magazines and videos. After skateboarding was banned in Philadelphia's LOVE Park, the emblem was used by organizations opposing the ban.[

Indiana moved to New York City in 1954 and joined the pop art movement, using distinctive imagery drawing on commercial art approaches blended with existentialism, that gradually moved toward what Indiana calls "sculptural poems". Indiana's work often consists of bold, simple, iconic images, especially numbers and short words like "EAT", "HUG", and "LOVE". He is also known for painting the unique basketball court formerly used by the Milwaukee Bucks in that city's U.S. Cellular Arena, with a large M shape taking up each half of the court.

He is also known for painting the unique basketball court formerly used by the Milwaukee Bucks in that city's U.S. Cellular Arena, with a large M shape taking up each half of the court. Despite his early success at the center of the art world, Indiana retreated to rural obscurity in later life. Indiana has lived as a resident in the island town of Vinalhaven, Maine since 1978.

SOOC Nature Wallpaper #1

"SOOC Nature" is a series of nature macro wallpapers.

My theme is that every image has to "look" like it's been heavily processed, yet it's 100% natural, i.e. this is exactly what the camera took, and only minimal necessary RAW treatment has been applied.

My intent is to create images that are stunningly beautiful in a natural, not artificial way.

Taken in the macro mode, this is a section of an amethyst vug. It is broken into a large chunk about 2' long and 18" wide. This image was captured inside a tent where the dealer displayed his specimens for sale. There is a fair amount of dust on the chunk of crystals but the available light from about 15' away still gave enough light play to show how this common crystal displays rich coloring in the spectrum of blue to purple to red.

Here is a specimen I own of very tiny amethyst crystals called "druzy":

Rendering of the Earth. This was done using new experimental C++ code that is being put together as a possible successor to jDem846. It has improved algorithms and now integrates OpenGL for hardware acceleration. This new code is considerably faster and much more memory efficient than the Java-based project. Elevations are exaggerated by about 50 times to better visualize terrain features, and cloud and atmospheric elevations are rather arbitrary.

Sources:
- Elevation Data is derived from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 30-arcsecond data (SRTM30), the Radarsat Antarctic Mapping Project Digital Elevation Model Version 2 (RAMP2), and the GEBCO_08 bathymetric raster from General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans.

- Satellite imagery provided by the NASA's Earth Observatory Blue Marble project.
