Ozawa poster combination No 1

A street in Tokyo, at the end of August 2007. See notes for some language tips.

Well, I decided to make my kind of documentary after the Upper House election (on 28 July 2007) and looked for the two main party's posters on my way.

The top one looks pretty new - but I don't think they put it after the election so it's at least one-month old. The one (smiling Ozawa) looks a bit older. I also posted another pair of Ozawa posters from the same week.

Compare with an Abe/LDP poster which I suppose is as old as these Ozawa posters.

Lamdré, The Path and Its Fruit, photo exhibit Sakya Tibetan Buddhist Anuttarayoga Empowerment, University of Washington iSchool Master of Information Management Capstone Poster, Seattle, Washington, USA

Abstract
The ancient beauty of Buddhism in the Tibetan culture spilling out into the world shares something important in common with the new science of user centered design – a recursive process leading to the benefit of others. This ongoing photographic exhibit documents a more than 1000 year-old tradition, a Tibetan Buddhist 'Wong' or formal empowerment into highest yoga tantra religious practice. Communicating about a vibrant and esoteric religious culture reveals increasingly deep levels of understanding, yet this culture and information becomes easier to approach and understand with design iterations that interact with the viewer. Written and visual information create effective facets by interacting with end users in the planning and ongoing stages – using surveys, tagging-term matching, comments, discussions, structure, interactivity, use trends, pattern-detection, and incorporating changes.

On the submarine base's roof (Panoramic view of 14 pictures)
In response to improved allied aircraft bombs, these explosion chambers were developed in later 1943. They were built with a succession of 1.8m-high concrete walls topped with rounded, 1.4m-high, concrete beams. This system left a large empty space, where the bomb blast could be canalized without any damage to the roof.

This satellite image is of the Mars (DSS-14) 70-meter antenna at NASA's Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex (GDSCC). It's the one at the top. The smaller one at the bottom is the Uranus (DSS-15) 34-meter antenna.

These devises are used to communicate with spacecraft at great distances. The 70-meter dish has the capacity to reach out to the outer reaches of our solar system.

Here is a link to a Google Map of the same area. You can use it to find the other antenna sites at Goldstone. They are located to the south and to the southeast of the above location.

Very cute!

1940s German roombox kitchen or store advertising display. It is of a cat and it advertises "Hoffmann's Reis-Starke mit der Katze" which means (loosely translated), "Strong Rice with the Cat". The cat is made of a cardstock paper and has front legs that can be folded out to stand the advertisement up in the roombox.

The cat measures 3 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide.

DLux 4---on qAF setting.

I wanted to play around a little more using prefocus mode, set to qAF (supposedly good for autofocusing moving objects).

I honestly didn't pay much attention to how fast the camera was able to focus. From the results I got, I'd have to guess the qAF mode does very well. I could have also set the camera on manual focus, aperture at f/8 to f/11 and auto ISO for quick pre-focus shooting. But, I wanted to go for a "street shooting" where I could take pictures from various distances with the largest aperture possible.

I walked from Central Square to Harvard (about a mile or less). Camera still set at qAF, I snapped a few pictures while I was walking, and never stopping (except for one picture of a chalk writing on the street). I shot from the waist level with camera to the side, as well as from the front (pointing the camera forward up and down as if I was looking at the photos I have taken.) I do that because I'm a bit shy being too obvious about taking photos of strangers on the street. Street photography hasn't been really "my thing" since I am kind of a quite/low key type of person.

I am very impressed with the results; fast focus, good metering, SILENT shutter and focus. Though I haven't done a lot of "street shooting," I'm finding Dlux 4 to be a quite capable "street shoot" camera. Having the Lecia grip also helped A LOT especially when I have to hold the camera side ways, taking shots from the side of the hip.

Anyway, I've posted a few pics from my walk. All these pictures in the series have been post-processed with a new free application I found for the mac, TiltShift to get the blur and softer look.

You are invited to stay and browse through my photostream. Here's a quick index to my Flickr site:

Springfield, Illinois: All of my photographs of Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Sites are in this collection. For the City of Springfield, there are separate sets for the Capitol Complex, Downtown (including the Old State Capitol), Neighborhoods, Parks, Illinois State Fairgrounds (and past State Fairs), and more. Photographs of Lincoln sites include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln Tomb, and so on. Also in the Lincoln "All About Abe" (Set) are a few Lincoln sites not located in Springfield.

Central Illinois (except Springfield): Photos relating to the middle section of the "Land of Lincoln" (except for the Capital City of Springfield) may be found in this collection. Every city and town I've photographed is contained within its own set, and rural (as in "counrtyside") photographs are grouped by county.

Beyond Central Illinois: Other locales in the United States and Canada including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

In addition to my location-based sets, here are links to some "topical" collections and sets I've put together:

Automobile Photograph Collection: This is a very large collection of images whose primary, but not exclusive, focus is on American automotive classics. Images are organized by decade, by manufacturer, and by topics (such as convertibles, station wagons, muscle cars, etc.)

Barbers & Barber Shops: Traditional barbers and barber shops are on the endangered species list. But there are still plenty to be found if you go looking for them.

Almost Everything Else. Check It Out!!!: Included topics range from man's first walk on the moon to small town schools and churches, and from Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers (our favorite breed) to things that are abandoned, neglected, weathered, or rusty.

This is a stitched picture made with Microsoft image composite editor. This program felt slow and you had little (or no) control of what the program was doing, and it could not preserve any of the EXIF information from the original pictures. The results was okay, but until MS fix the EXIF problem and the speed of the program I will stick to "Hugin panorama maker".

P.S Sorry for the bad spelling.

I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.

Ezimba also has a Facebook app, Google Android app, and a free iPhone app. Please note that the free iPhone app puts a small logo on the edited image. You can buy the paid ezimba app and not have the logo.

The Guard House in front of the fenced perimeter of the launch pad (SF-88L) for the Nike-Hercules missile silo. The perimeter is lit by boundary lights, and a missile in launch position can be seen to the left. Security when the site was operational was extraordinarily strict, and personnel were trained on a 'need to know' basis. No one person knew enough to completely operate the missiles, and access was severely enforced by use of rosters, segregation of teams and even attack dogs.

More details on security arrangements can be found here: www.nikemissile.org/Security/security_was_extremely_tight...
