The start of my digital picture frame

I've resurrected my wife's old HP laptop and figured it would be perfect for a digital photoframe project.

Some of my ideas:

Configurable slideshows from a local or networked disk

Ability to display a Flickr stream from RSS feeds and certain tags

Possibly realtime weather, time?

All of this is more of a dream at this point, as I am not much of a coder :), but a confident hacker.

Notice the wifi card. The keyboard is mounted to the back of the lcd. All neatly inside the frame and secured with foam and you guessed it - duct tape. ugly, but efficient.

This was the point where everything was out and parts were on the table. I stood there and began saying to myself "this thing will never work again....."

Fortunately it did work again and is still functioning perfectly!

The gaps are better, and it's painted! total cost: .65 for the trim. I had everything else, so that was nice. I do have some left-over trim if I decide to rebuild the frame.

The pictures are on a 15 second loop. I think my next part of this never-ending project is getting a way to display my friends photos on flickr. There is a screensaver called Slickr, but it is Windows only. This thing runs linux. :( There are a few solutions I have found online, but I want to try it myself.

Booted up and looking sweet...
