Details and History
The Library of Congress website offers a multitude of historical images, many with no known restrictions on use. This image is cropped from the 19th century Timothy H. O'Sullivan stereograph titled North Anna River, Virginia. Pontoon bridge across North Anna, below railroad bridge, where a portion of the 2nd Corps under Gen. Hancock crossed, May 23d. This scene was lensed during the overland (wilderness) campaign, a strategic Union victory culminating in the sieges of Richmond and Petersburg.
