But very few people know about the new mobile technologies that are making is possible for poor people to save the money they earn. The fact is, poor people can and do save, but they have a hard time doing it in banks, which are geared toward wealthier customers. Instead, they hide cash in their homes, or buy jewelry and livestock. What poor people need is a way to save efficiently and safely, so they can invest in their futures. Mobile banking gives them that opportunity. (Port-au-Prince, Haiti 2010)
