A Photo a Day - May 13, 2010.
Ink. It's probably one of the most expensive liquids on the planet. On single cartridge of black ink for my printer is .00 after sales tax. I can't find numbers anywhere on the actual amount of ink that's in a cartridge, but guessing by the size of it, it can't be more than a fluid ounce. That equates to about 04.00 per gallon. So now gas prices don't look so bad after all (we're about .80-.50/gal in Maryland). Even if you fill up more than you do replacing ink, I think you still come out ahead.
The only thing that may be more expensive than ink would be certain medications. I know that Epogen is highly expensive. A quick search on Google shows that a 1mL vial is going for around .00. That equates out to roughly 1,725.00 per gallon!
Think about this the next time you hit "PRINT".

I've had a few funny looks recently as I've been collecting this printer spool which find itself spread around uni. There's an ancient printer in particular up on the 5th floor, which is rather temperamental. Every so often it will pump out a sheet of this code. I presume its the HEX or ASCII of the image it was supposed to print, but it produces some really nice looking graphics.
As interesting as it is, its not ideal the day before a hand-in...

I presume its the HEX or ASCII of the image it was supposed to print, but it produces some really nice looking graphics.

Photo a Day, January 2009: 9 of 31
As a follow-up to yesterday's shot of my old printer, here's a snap of my new printer, along with some examples of its output. Today's pic is also an example of my lack of skill in creating a "studio shot" in my dining room...I'd like to get better at this whole still-life(ish) thing. As my grasp on the technical side of photography increases (which it's doing pretty rapidly, these days), I'm coming to appreciate just what an art in itself arranging the subject matter of a still life is. As someone who tends to photograph mostly landscapes, I'm not used to being able to so directly pose my subject - I'd like to get better at this. And hopefully, with practice, I will.
